Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Managing Environmental Engineer for our Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice in Austin, TX. In this role you will work as part of a team focusing on complex environmental issues, providing high-level scientific and/or litigation support for projects centering on contamination of environmental, industrial, and engineered systems. The ideal candidate for this position should be open to collaboration on multidisciplinary work and developing and expanding areas of expertise.

You will be responsible for

  • Conducting engineering and technical analyses related to engineering standard of care, contamination investigations, root cause investigations, environmental and regulatory compliance, surface water quality, industrial processes, and water and wastewater treatment and remediation
  • Applying critical thinking to prepare and review complex technical reports and presentations
  • Supporting multidisciplinary project teams on complex, challenging problems
  • Evaluating and interpreting scientific literature, regulatory standards, guidance documents, and legal case materials
  • Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate
  • Providing exceptional technical support to clients such as expert support on litigation matters, professional recommendations on regulatory strategy, and assessment of contaminant risk
  • Pursuing professional development
  • Leading business development initiatives
  • Representing Exponent through conference presentations and journal publications
  • Improving professional visibility
  • Developing client relationships
  • Mentoring and supervising junior staff

You will have the following skills and qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineering License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment
  • 5-7 years of related experience (consulting experience a plus) after highest degree obtained
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, and effective with time management
  • Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop new areas of expertise

Preferred:

  • Understanding of engineered environmental and water systems
  • Experience in evaluating surface water quality
  • Understanding of drinking water and wastewater treatment
  • Understanding of the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, National Pollution Discharge Elimination System or Toxic Release Inventory and other related state and federal regulations
  • Experience evaluating microbial contamination and regrowth in industrial and municipal systems
  • Experience with PFAS and other organic contaminants
  • Strong ability to synthesize and communicate technical data analysis and professional recommendations in a clear and effective manner
  • Project management experience including tracking of milestones and deliverables
  • Strong interest in career and professional development within a dynamic consulting environment
  • Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently, and manage time effectively
  • Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing and dynamic deadlines

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.


The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
