Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Manager or Principal for our Metallurgical & Corrosion Engineering Practice in the Washington DC area. In this role, you will work as part of multidisciplinary team of experts to solve complex metallurgical, materials science, and materials engineering problems and advise clients on their product and process lifecycles, with a focus on failure analysis, performance, and reliability.  You will lead projects, identify new clients, build on relationships with existing clients, and develop new business in related areas.

You will be responsible for

  • Using expertise in metallurgical engineering and materials science to solve diverse and often complex materials problems affecting a range of clients 
  • Identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities
  • Attracting, developing, and enhancing new projects and clients
  • Developing and mentoring staff in both technical and business areas
  • Providing project management and project budget oversight
  • Leading hands-on failure analyses, materials characterization, metallurgical analysis, and field inspections, and communicating results to internal and external stakeholders

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related discipline
  • 4 or more years of relevant experience in consulting with a proven track record of attracting new and repeat clients or funding
  • Strong background in materials characterization techniques (e.g. metallography, SEM, EDS, FIB, and/or X-ray radiography/diffraction, etc.) and failure analysis (e.g. fractography, metallurgical analyses, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding reputation among clients and the scientific community for integrity, responsiveness, and technical expertise
  • Adept management abilities and demonstrated project management experience
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong commitment to professional development 
  • Our contracts with the United States Government for this position require proof of U.S. citizenship and the possession of or ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above, total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

 

The base salary range for this position is depending on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.

USD $185,000.00 - USD $230,000.00 /Yr.
