Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Engineer for our Materials & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Shanghai, China.  In this role you will work as part of a team to perform analysis of materials, mechanical, and electrical failures ranging from consumer products and electronics to complex mechanical systems, as well as conducting hands-on failure analysis and planning and executing laboratory tests and simulations.

You will be responsible for

  • Analyzing the failure of a wide variety of products via field inspections, experimental testing and engineering analysis
  • Developing investigation plans using a variety of analytical equipment
  • Providing failure prevention strategies
  • Conducting manufacturing facility audits/evaluations to help improve quality/reduce reject rates
  • Conducting design reviews on components and products
  • Project management and marketing
  • Communicating with clients in Asia and the U.S.

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Materials Engineering or a related discipline. Background in metallurgy or pcb manufacturing and metallization will be a plus
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese
  • In-depth knowledge of materials science and engineering
  • Excellent hands-on engineering skills with an emphasis on material characterizations, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy or energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Experience with TEM, EBSD, FIB, XPS, AES and ToF-SIMS will be a plus
  • Ability to conduct an engineering investigation of defective products and determine the cause(s) of failure
  • Ability to clearly communicate findings through reports and presentations
  • Must be detail-oriented and self-motivated requiring minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Must be able to work well as part of a larger team
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in performing engineering investigations and calculations of real-world problems. Must be an excellent problem solver with experience presenting in front of academic or business audiences
  • This is a Shanghai-based position. The successful applicant must live in (or be willing to relocate to) the Shanghai area AND be enthusiastic about regularly working in the office.
