Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Scientist for our Chemical Regulation and Food Safety Practice in one of our European offices (located in Ireland, the UK, Germany or Switzerland).  Remote working is also an option. In this newly created role you will work as part of a diverse team of experienced food safety, quality, regulatory and nutrition experts, to provide chemical technical support primarily on food contact materials, but also on novel foods, food additives, labelling and other food regulatory and food safety related issues within Europe and other countries.

You will be responsible for

  • Providing high quality technical scientific and regulatory advice to colleagues and clients
  • Contributing to successful completion of complex, multidiscipline projects, including regulatory submissions in the UK and EU
  • Building and developing successful client relationships

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • A minimum of a BSc in chemistry, biochemistry, food science or a closely related field with a strong preference for a higher degree
  • Knowledge and experience of working with European (and UK) regulatory frameworks relating to food, including but not limited to, food contact materials (preferred), novel foods, food additives and/or food contaminant legislation
  • In depth knowledge and practical experience of analytical chemistry (chromatographic methods preferred), with understanding of their application in regulatory settings

Desirable Skills would include:

  • Confidence in collating, reviewing and interpreting scientific data and information
  • Experience of data interpretation and problem solving
  • Experience of working in a team environment especially multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Evidence of and aptitude for networking (e.g. with external experts, business managers, representation on industry or inter-agency task forces, committee membership in a professional society, contacts across industry)
  • Experience of working in a government agency, a food industry role or a food testing laboratory
